The variable-width strip packing problem

چکیده
Here, we focus on a generalized version of the strip packing problem; namely have several open-end strips with different widths, and wish to pack rectangular items into these without overlapping such that minimize either makespan (i.e. top topmost item), or total area used. We investigate online variant problem, where are arriving one-by-one, make irrevocable decisions their packing. A similar framework was proposed by Ye Mei (On-line scheduling parallel jobs in heterogeneous multiple clusters. Frontiers algorithmics algorithmic aspects information management, Springer, Berlin, pp 139–148, 2012. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-29700-7_13 ) for models, they studied absolute competitive ratio algorithm. Our contribution is define new objective function algorithms combining so-called shelf techniques taken from areas variable-sized bin problem scheduling. analyzed asymptotic our algorithms.

Reactive GRASP for the strip-packing problem
This paper presents a greedy randomized adaptive search procedure (GRASP) for the strip packing problem, which is the problem of placing a set of rectangular pieces into a strip of a given width and infinite length so as to minimize the required length. We investigate several strategies for the constructive and improvement phases and several choices for critical search parameters. We perform ex...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Exact Algorithms for the Two Dimensional Strip Packing Problem
In this paper we consider a two dimensional strip packing problem. The problem consists of packing a set of rectangular items in one strip of width W and infinite height. They must be packed without overlapping, parallel to the edge of the strip and we assume that the items are oriented, i.e. they cannot be rotated. To solve this problem, we use three exact methods: a branch and bound method, a...
متن کاملA Harmonic Algorithm for the 3D Strip Packing Problem
In the three dimensional strip packing problem, we are given a set of three dimensional rectangular items and a three dimensional box B. The goal is to pack all the items in B such that the height of the packing is minimized. We consider the most basic version of the problem, where the items must be packed with their edges parallel to the edges of B and cannot be rotated. Building upon Caprara’...
متن کاملSymmetry breaking generalized disjunctive formulation for the strip packing problem
The two-dimensional strip packing is a special case of “Cutting and Packing” problems that arises in many applications. The problem seeks to pack a given set of rectangles into a strip of given width in order to minimize its length. Some applications in which the strip packing problem arises are: Cutting pieces from wooden boards, cutting pieces from glass or steel sheets, optimal layout of ind...
